Alexander has released a brand new single titled, 'Dancing Between the Raindrops'.
“Although I rarely intend to write programmatic music, I wanted to give a catalyst for this piece." The single is inspired by the poem written by Michael Nesmith of the same name, 'Dancing Between the Raindrops' and is written for large chamber orchestra that attempts to translate the words of the poem by Nesmith into music.

Alexander continues, "I am continuously struck by the poems immense beauty and use of language that vales the imagery to the reader. The role of the ensemble is for the most part simply to colour and interact in interesting ways with the melodic line. A strong sense of dancers movements, glistening light reflecting off the water coming from the sky above and the overall depiction of the sound of water is depicted through the orchestration of sound. The orchestration and treatment of instruments in this piece is translucent, transparent and gives off a rich texture. It was a challenging yet interesting experience,” he says, describing the recording of the single with the Northern Film Orchestra during the Covid-19 pandemic. “The entire orchestra members gathered together simultaneously for their final time before the restrictions were then put in place.”

Working with the Norwegian and Assistant Conductor for Arctic Philharmonic as Conductor for the recording session was a collaborative experience, with plans to work together in a future project. The composition 'Dancing Between the Raindrops' – a piece dedicated to the joy of the outdoors, which, despite being written before the pandemic, provided an evocative soundtrack to 2020. Alexander then commission artist Steven X. Haber to design the artwork for the single, inspired by both Nesmith's poem and Alexander's music. The resulting artwork is bold, beautiful and translucent.

The Northern Film Orchestra performs 'Dancing Between the Raindrops', dedicated to his Father, Ewan Proudlock, is availible on YouTube below.

Alexander comments, "I have been trying to collect stories of different sources of literature, where I found the subject matter intriguing. I was looking for notions from the outside realm of my life and work, which were not only inspiring to me, but which could be set to music and form the basis for the respective composition."
'Dancing Between the Raindrops' is now available to stream on all streaming platforms with exclusive photos taken from the recording session and artwork by Steven X. Haber.
