MUSIC
Dancing Between the Raindrops
Inspired by the poem by Michael Nesbit of the same name, this piece written for small chamber orchestra attempts to translate the words of the poem into music. The work takes the listener through an adventure, accompanied by balanced melodies and motivic embellishments. The whimsical nature of the music follows the pure delight in the two figures portrayed in the painting and tells the story of the dance movements choreographed between these two lovers. Rowland's brush strokes and use of colour manifest themselves into the music using texture, instrumental colour, and the various balances of instrumental groupings and their variations throughout the work.
